Consignor FAQ

What is Consignment?

Consignment is a highly addictive way to earn money and sell your gently used children's items in BULK.

It's also a much less stressful alternative to shopping at garage sales, Ebay or on CraigsList. Consignors prepare, price and enter their items into an online inventory system at their leisure.

Once tagged, Consignors bring their items to the event and ChickenKidz does the rest. Within 7 days of the event, each consignor will receive a check for a percentage of their items sold.

How do I become a Consignor?

Just register!

You will be assigned your consigner number and can begin entering and tagging your items as soon as you are ready.

What percentage of the sales do I receive?

All consignors automatically earn 65% of their items that sell.

By volunteering, you can increase the percentage up to 80% and shop ealier than everyone else.

Who sets the prices?

You do!

We offer pricing guidelines but the easiest thing to do when pricing is think about what YOU would pay if you were buying the items.

There is no haggling, so price to sell. The last day of the sale is the optional 50% off Crazy Discount day.

It is up to you to decide if you would like your items to be discounted on that day but we strongly encourage it.

Where do I find children's wire hangers?

Your local Dry Cleaning establishment is the best place to pick them up.

Most dry cleaners will give you a modest amount of these items for free or will sell them to you for a reasonable price. You can also purchase wire hangers via Craigslist or Ebay. We strongly encourage using children’s wire hangers.

You may also purchase children's hangers directly from ChickenKidz by contacting us at susan@chickenkidz.com.

A lot of 50 hangers costs $6.00.

Will I get my hangers back after the sale?

Sorta-kinda.

Hangers will not be returned to you but you will receive hangers with your purchases. We will also have a small lot left over after the sale and you are welcome to take a bunch.

How many items can I sell?

As a seller, you have a 350 item limit. As a restocker, you have a 250 item limit. Bring less but bring your best.

ChickenKidz is all about Quality over Quantity.

Is the whole tagging process easy to learn?

Simple!

The online system is extremely easy to manage. Entering your inventory is very fast.

The system will create bar coded tags which you can print from your home printer. Simply cut them out and use safety pins or packing tape to attach them to the items.

After registering, you will receive a Consignor Guide that will step you through it. It’s really not rocket science.

If I consign, do I actually have to be there and sell my items during the sale?

Absolutely not.

Consignors drop off their items at designated times and return at the end of the sale to pick up their unsold items.

If you choose to have them donated, we’ll get them ready for charity and you can download a Donation Receipt for tax purposes

When do I drop off my items?

Consignors can register for a drop-off appointment through the online system. Drop-offs are scheduled a few days before the sale.

Please be prompt.

How long will it take?

You should schedule roughly a half-hour to go through the drop-off process. We'll review the items for quality and then assist you in putting the accepted items on the racks.

Having your items sorted by size and gender will really speed up the process. If you are bringing large items that need assembly, you will need to assemble them at the time of drop off.

We can assist you but you know better than us how it all goes together.

Why are you so picky about quality?

Repeat after me: "A consignment sale is not a garage sale, a consignment sale is not a garage sale …"

Please don't be offended if we ask you to take back any of your items.

ChickenKidz prides itself on the quality of items offered and we will not accept any items that are stained, ripped, broken, outdated or incomplete.

Many of our consignors are also our biggest shoppers and if you want to buy great items at a great price, you need to pay it forward and bring great items. And that's the formula for having a great sale. Simple as that.

What happens to the items that don't sell?

Consignors may take back any items that don't sell. If you do not want to take back your items, ChickenKidz will donate them on your behalf to a local charity.

All items not picked up by the designated time will be donated. This is strictly enforced.

That being said, if you price your items right, you shouldn't have much to pick up or donate anyway.

Do I have to sort through the racks to find my unsold items?

Absolutely not.

We will have your items sorted for you and ready to go.

How will I know what items have sold?

You may check your sales online at the end of each day.

However, since it will be late before the sales data is downloaded, your best is to check the following morning.

Is the Consignor PreSale worth it?

Worth it?!?! You bet!

Every Consignor is given one PreSale entry to the sale and you will be among the first to check out the goods before the public.

Think about it – if you’re in the market for toys, a stroller, boys clothes in a size 5T, anything at all, you'll have first crack at the biggest selection at the best prices.

This is a major perk of being a Consignor.

When do I get paid?

Checks are mailed to you within 7 days of the sale ending.
